Getting By

This past Monday we took the Jetta to what is presumably its final resting place. Considering all of its issues (filthy interior, it over heated on the way to the salvage yard, bad brakes, etc.) it will probably be stripped of what parts are salvageable and then dismantled and sold as scrap steel.

We squeezed all the life we could out of the car. And in the end we squeezed a little more and got some grocery money out of it.

I have used a russian formula goop to extend the life of the engine in my car. Xado (ha-doe) makes an oil treatment, that rebuilds where parts rub. The rubbing parts make heat in the engine, drawing the ceramic gel and metal particles from the oil, which then plate the area of friction. Once the parts are back to factory tolerances, the buildup of lower-friction, harder-than-metal metalic-ceramic compound stops — there. They have pictures of engine cylinders rebuilt from egg-shaped to rounded, and claim that the engine acquires the ability to run for miles, even if the oil drains out. It sells for $60 or so a tube, and takes three tubes for an engine. I got mine a year ago from autobahnpower.com, for $20/tube, but now I see that have gone to $25 a tube. Xado claims they improve fuel efficiency 30% at idle. I wouldn’t know, I tend to turn off my car instead of idling much. I figure I got at least 18 months more so far out of my 92 Ford Escort wagon.
Xado also recommends a tube or two for new engines. They claim the protection extends the life of the engine about 50,000 miles. And they make compounds for diesel engines, automatic transmissions, small engines. And even a version for restoring worn gun barrels!
I wish every purchase lasted until my kids get tire of it.

I hope that you hummed “taps”.

I’ll look into that for our other vehicles, Brad. I know some other people who might be interested too. Thanks.
Kiley, I was thinking it but I don’t think I actually hummed it.

Bridge Over the River Kwai.
Then again, I whistle that when I walk upstairs.
